Upcoming 2017 Meeting Programs, by Month :

July – The Quilter’s Gallery

Trunk Show.  They will bring a current selection of quilts and quilt tops, usually about 50 or more for your pleasure.  Some are samples of current patterns and some are original designs.  As they go through the quilts, they discuss color, creative fabric use and simple border treatments along with lots of tips and tricks that they have learned in the past 25+ years.  They also bring their fabric collections, patterns, rulers, and kits to sell after the “show and tell.”

August – Linda Hungerford – “Domestic Machine Quilting:  A Quilter’s Journey from Novice to Confident”

Linda will share her journey toward becoming an award-winning domestic machine quilter.  With first-hand experience facing the challenges of learning free motion quilting, without the aid of a stitch regulator, she will share tips learned along the way that will help domestic machine quilters achieve success.  The presentation concludes with a trunk show of her domestic machine quilted quilts.

September – Anita Bowen “Collaboration:  It Takes Two!”

Anita Bowen is know for her “Galaxy of Stars” quilt but in September she will be presenting “It takes Two” to our membership.  Learning to collaborate with others will probably help us all to improve in some area of quilting.

October – Auction and Appetizers

This is our fundraiser for the year and the date that we draw the winner of our raffle quilt.

November – Beth Karr “Trunk Show”

Beth is well known for her pattern “All the Right Angles” and for classes such as “One Block Wonders” that she has presented to others.  Find out what she is up to now at our November guild meeting and be inspired to start a project during those cold winter days.

Don’t Fear the “A” Word with Joyce Walton

Date:  Wednesday, July 26, 9am-4pm

Where:  Harvest Baptist Church

Member Fee:  $35

This is a needle-turn applique class with a simple straight forward approach.  No freezer paper, no templates, & no fusing.  Just trace shapes and apply to your background with silk thread.  Helpful tips and tricks will be introduced with this technique.  If you love hand applique, but were afraid to try it, you’ll love this class.  Hand embroidery will also be covered.

New Life Embroidered Bag with Jonathan Hall

Where:  Woodland Methodist Church, 801 N. Cherry Rd, Rock Hill, SC  29732

Member Fee:  $45

This two day workshop will lead students in the creation of the New Life Embroidered Bag.  The first day of the class will focus on machine embroidery of the 12 blocks that make up the bag.  The second day of the class will focus on constructing and finishing the bag.  There are 7 unique embroidery files used in this class; one for the bottom border and then 6 applique blocks with a cat, wheelbarrow, sheep, watering can, and a letter box with a bird and some butterflies.  The bag requires 12 hoopings altogether.  The design comes in two sizes for 4×4 and 5×5 hoops.  All sizes are included in this class.  The bag is completely lined and has no raw seams.  The lining and borders are added with your sewing machine.  Participants may personalize bag to their specific taste.
